On Saturday night, Matt and I got our Groupon on at Spamps to celebrate my birthday. Yes, that is the name of the restaurant. It’s short for Spampinato, the owner’s last name. Dinner was good but dessert…oh my, one of my favorites. Chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream.
Initially it didn’t come with ice cream (can you imagine?). I requested it. You can’t eat a lava cake without melted ice cream drizzling down. I turned my flash off to take the picture. I didn’t want strange glances.
Matt and I went to the bar afterwards for a drink but were home by 9. You need to make a beeline out of Spamps before 10pm before it turns into a meat market.
Proof that it always snows around my birthday. Excuse my demonic eyes.
Matt, hating life because I’m taking his picture. Do it for the blog, Matt.
I woke up Sunday morning and I was feeling the 20-miler from Saturday and 48 miles in general for the week. I knew I was in for a treat at barre class.
My legs shaked non-stop in class. My quads were screaming and I could no longer tuck and squeeze. No one else’s legs were shaking, I appeared to be so out of shape. So barre class the day after a 20-miler is not ideal. Lesson learned.
What’s your favorite dessert? The lava cake is pretty high up there but I do love myself a DQ Blizzard.
Ever feel completely inadequate and out of shape during strength training or yoga because of running (even though you are clearly in shape)?

I’m a sucker for anything like lava cake. In fact, my favorite dessert may be the Brownie Obsession at TGIFridays! Keeping it classy 🙂 It’s like a barely cooked brownie, which makes it awesome, tons ice cream and chocolate syrup.
As for the other question, YES! I am so in shape with running but doing other activities are always really hard for me — what is that? Anyway, i relate!

I tell my husband the same thing “Think of the BLOG!” when I take his picture, haha.
I like how you celebrate birthdays. 🙂

I constantly feel out of shape in anything but running. A 30 minute at home spin class on YouTube yesterday left me so out of breath I literally couldn’t answer a question Eric asked me for like 4 minutes after it was over. Strength training…forget it. Lava cake without ice cream? That should be illegal. Happy birthday again! You have me wanting to try to that Barre class.

mmm, lava cake is up there for me too. I love warm chocolate cake or fudge over vanilla ice cream. it is a perfect combo. Carrot cake is also one of my all time faves. Totally feel awkward during yoga sometimes! haha. but I guess that’s why it’s important for us to do it!

happy birthday!!! looks like you had a lovely time – and that cake looks so good. i pretty much love any dessert, as long as it’s not too citrusy. prefer chocolate stuff too!

My all time favorite dessert is the Brownie Derbie that they had at Bennigan’s. I know they have it them at most places though. It’s that yummy brownie with vanilla ice-cream on top and whipped cream. OH, to die for. It’s not as chocolatey as your Lava cake (which Lava cake is tied w/ Chocolate cream pie for Pedro’s favorite dessert). So YUM!!!!
OH, I do bar method at home and my legs are shaking uncontrollably any day of the week. I’m like, “WTH is going on here?” Hey, that’s how you know it’s a great workout, right?
You look too cute in the snow!!! I hope you had a very happy birthday!! Birthdays are so much fun!

Yoga always kills me because my quads and hammies are so tight I can’t hold some poses for long (and can’t even get into others LOL). I always feel like such a loser, even though I can run forever. ;o)
Sounds like a lovely birthday celebration.

I’ve been to Spamps! It’s near my friend’s house, and I thought the food was amazing when I went. Great choice for a bday dinner!

You are bada$$ for going to the class after such a tough week! I’m totally impressed. Also, that cake looks amazing. Glad you had a great birthday weekend! 🙂

Yay, sounds like a great celebration! I love anything chocolate and anything that is chocolate and peanut butter together. I also love carrot and/or pumpkin….and my biggest weakness is ice cream!
And, yes! I have totally felt completely out of shape because my body was so spent from running 🙂 Just wear your Boston jacket to class after the race, that will shut everyone up!

I think it’s incredible that you braved a Barre class after that distance! I’ve taken the Dailey Method, which is similar to Barre, and I couldn’t walk right for a week after (and I was even a ballet dancer for 12 years!)! Very impressive, if if you regretted it a little 🙂 Happy bday!
