Erica Sara Necklace
I’m not normally a necklace wearer, but I instantly loved this Erica Sara necklace that Meggie featured on her blog last month. I love the button concept and the ability to personalize it. So what does mine say? BOSTON 4-16-12. I didn’t want the word “marathon” or “26.2” included – I wanted it short and sweet and not obvious.

Broad Street Run
I’m running Broad Street this Sunday, the flattest and fastest (and most crowded) 10-miler. I’m transforming into spontaneous Kristy and running without a plan or a strategy. It’s too soon after Boston to tell how my legs will hold up (although my quads are feeling back to normal) so I’m just gonna go with the flow (gasp!).

Coaching
I don’t talk about coaching often but I realized earlier this week that it has been a year since I started my little coaching biz (officially…unofficially, I’ve been coaching for years). To say that it’s completely rewarding and fulfilling is an understatement. I just need to figure out a way to do it full-time Smile

Hawk has seasonal allergies
Yes, just like me! On Saturday his one eye was a green, goopy mess.  Since this has happened before, I immediately started giving him Benadryl.  A few hours later he was pawing at it – something he never does – so we went to the vet.  We walked out with this and some eye drops…

cone of shame

Don’t let the slightly pleasant look fool you, Hawk was miserable.  Thankfully we didn’t need to leave the cone on too long since the Benadryl kicked in pretty quickly.  Poor guy!

Are you more spontaneous or more of a planner?  I’m interested to see your response, as I know most runners are Type A.

Winter in October

October 31, 2011 by Kristy 13 Comments

The title of this post is simply obnoxious.  Just 3 short weeks ago I was laying on the beach writing a post called “Summer in October“. Snow in October is just wrong.

Thankfully, Saturday was a planned rest day so I didn’t have to brave the cold and snow for a long run.  We did have 2 parties to go to.  The first was a Halloween party for Hawk hosted by our dog walker.  We decided to swing by at the last minute since it wasn’t too far away.  Hawk got 3rd place for his costume.  Personally, Matt and I think he was robbed.  First place went to a lab dressed as a cop.  Totally unoriginal.  Coincidentally, the owner of the lab was also the mayor of our town (I had no clue we even had a mayor), so I think she swayed the judges.  Come on, how cute is this little lobster?  If you care, 2nd place went to a tiny poodle dressed as a clown.

that witch is creepy

We left the Halloween party, dropped Hawk off, and then headed out to Jersey.  We had a mini-Mains birthday to celebrate!  We got stuck in terrible traffic due to all the accidents caused by the snow (it took us 30 minutes to go 1 mile).  We ended up turning around since the roads were so bad.  I was bummed.  I was so looking forward to seeing everyone.  Happy 1st Birthday Michael!  I hope you enjoyed your cake 🙂

The rest of the day was spent catching up on DVR…Amazing Race and Dexter.

On Sunday I went out for a 6-miler around 11:30am.  I wanted some snow to melt and the temps to warm up a bit.  I felt so bad for all the MCMers freezing at the start.  It was probably good race weather once you got warmed up but I’m sure waiting in the early AM was agony.  Congrats to everyone who ran the race!

Happy Halloween!  We get to torture Hawk again tonight with his costume.

Fantastic Friday

September 16, 2011 by Kristy 6 Comments

TGIF, indeed!  I have a 3-day weekend ahead of me and I could not be happier.  I must confess that I did take off to register for the Boston Marathon on Monday.  Let’s hope I’m registering at 10am on Monday and not sulking!

I caught a glimpse of a rainbow outside my house last night. Good omen for Boston registration?!?!

This week has been hell at work.  All day meetings from Tuesday to Friday.  I am so looking forward to this weekend.

Tonight, Matt and I are going out to dinner to celebrate my BQ.  I told you I would milk this for as long as possible!

I found out there is a 5K on Saturday morning right in my neighborhood.  My initial thought was to race it (seriously).  I mean, my legs feel fine.  And by fine I mean they don’t hurt when I walk down the steps and get up from a seat.  I finally came to my senses and realized “racing” a 5K was not happening.  Kara suggested running with Hawk.  The race website said they welcome strollers and pets so me, Matt, and Hawk are going to walk the 5K.

As long as it doesn't interfere with my nap schedule

And then Sunday is the Team RTLR Half Marathon!  I have lots to look forward to this weekend.

You still have plenty of time to enter my giveaway!  I will pick 3 winners on Monday, September 19.  If you don’t use Twitter or Facebook (or already follow me on Twitter and Facebook), leave a comment anyway and consider yourself entered!

Random Wednesday

Rest day!

  • I found out my bib number for the NJ Marathon is 700.  Winning!  Not only is it lucky, it’s an even number!
  • I went back to yoga last night for a 75-minute Vinyasa class with my favorite teacher, Candace.  It was a nice n’ easy class which is exactly what I wanted.  Candace does a ton of swan-dive-forward-folds (sometimes I get dizzy) and always throws in the pigeon pose at the end which makes my glutes/hamstrings happy.
  • Since my plan to cut out all sweets until after the marathon failed miserably, I am going to try portion control (imagine that).  Matt and I don’t have sweets in the house because we have no self-control around them.  So I bought ice cream yesterday (well, 2 actually) and I told Matt that we need to practice portion control and make these 2 cartons last as long as possible.  Surprisingly, Matt agreed!  It’s a good thing we’re both on the same page or we’d be out of ice cream.
  • I never posted these pictures from our DC trip.  Hawk is pretty darn cute…

Hawk Does D.C.

April 2, 2011 by Kristy 5 Comments

Greetings from D.C.!  Matt and I are happy to be back.  We lived here for 3 years after college for grad school.  We have so many good memories of this place and met so many great people (Matt and I lovingly refer to them as the “DC peeps”; we are still friends with all of them to this day).

We hit up the expo which was very crowded and uneventful, except for the weather.  One minute sun…

The next minute crazy wind and hail.  Yeah, waiting in line outside was fun.

Hail everywhere

Then we took Mr. Hawk for a long walk into Georgetown.

Taking Dad for a run

Since I’m all about honesty on Run The Long Road, I must make a confession.  I broke down and ate a cupcake.  I even photographed my evidence!  If you missed my post a few days ago, I gave up sweets until after the marathon.  I made it about a week.  Maybe I should just focus on giving up DQ Blizzards until after the marathon?!  In my defense, we barely ate lunch and my blood sugar was dropping to dangerously low levels.

Vanilla bean cupcake - it was delicious!

Off to dinner…and then to bed.  Got a very early wake-up call tomorrow.
