Summer In October

Happy Tuesday friends!  After a long weekend of sun and fun, it’s back to reality.

Matt and I headed to Brigantine, NJ on Saturday for a long weekend.  Saturday through Monday were perfect beach days…days you dream about during the summer…much less in October.  We could not get over how unbelievably warm it was.

Ahhh...

Hawk thoroughly enjoyed himself.  Loved the sand, but water…not so much.

Hawk enjoyed snacking on shells
Stink eye

We sat on the beach until 5pm on Sunday.  It was too gorgeous to leave.

Miller Lite makes everything better
Oh hey...
A MUST read

Before we hit the beach on Sunday, I was glued to my computer watching live coverage of the Chicago Marathon.  It did not disappoint. Moses and Liliya were fascinating to watch but did you read about the pregnant woman (very pregnant, as in 39 weeks) that ran the marathon and gave birth later that night (article here)?  Holy crap!  She ran the first half and walked the second half, finishing in an impressive 6:25!  UNREAL!

Ahh, yes. And Indian Summer indeed. Crazy, but I don’t mind it. Just as long as it’s not humid (or what Pedro and I call “huggy”; humid and muggy).

Oh, I totally read that article. Here I was thinking I was cool running a half marathon at 29-weeks. Holy crap, a full marathon. WOW is all I could say. I re-posted this article on my OB/GYN’s Facebook. She actually ran Boston Marathon 16-weeks at a cool 3:45. Uh, I can’t run that not pregnant….

Happy Tuesday. Enjoy your day, lady.

Your doctor ran a 3:45 at 16 wks?? Damn, I busted my butt for that not pregnant!!

What is her PR? Just curious since she was still speedy at 16 weeks!

I’m not sure what her PR is, but she has ran Boston quite a few times. Right now, she’s injured, but she’s looking into a marathon to BQ again. She ended up going to Boston, but had to back out because she knew she wouldn’t make it over a mile.

Looks like you had a beautiful weekend–I love the shore in Sept/Oct! Also loved The Long Run–wow, Matt Long is pretty amazing, isn’t he?

Haven’t read “The Long Run” — will have to check that out! And the marathon at 39 weeks pregnant — holy crap! A marathon is hard and being 39 weeks pregnant looks hard…combine the two? Sounds miserable!

That pregnant woman is nuts. I know you can probably find a doctor that will say “Ok!” to anything, but that doesn’t make it a good idea. I hate how everyone is like “How hardcore!” when it’s isn’t hardcore or cool to endanger your baby.

I’m listening to The Long Road audiobook during my long runs right now! Great book, right?
Yea, read that article too. Not sure how I feel about it. My initial reaction was, “holy crap that’s amazing!” but then I don’t think I agreed with the fact that she continued running/walking even though her doc only cleared her for the half. Hmm. Still, incredible story.

I am so on the fence with this woman’s story. Part of me is like “please allow this woman to know her own body and what is it capable of” and then the other part of me is like “yeah, but currently it’s not just her body – she is a walking incubator so she should adjust things accordingly.” I don’t know. She was set to be on the Today this am but I had to come to work so I missed it. Work is SO annoying that way.

Reading that book on a perfect beach day = heaven. Looks so relaxing there! That is a crazy story – I can’t believe how much media attention it’s getting. I wonder why exactly the woman wanted to do it so badly… and still did it even with the weather

Not sure running a marathon pregnant is one of my goals. Can you imagine how uncomfortable that would be?! I guess I can’t really complain anymore after hearing that one…. 🙂

I could barely walk by the end of my pregnancy, much less run half a marathon (and then walk the other half). All’s well that ends well for her, though!

I saw the comment about someone’s doc who qualified for Boston while pregnant. People like that make me totally envious too. On the other hand, they also just make me want to sigh. There’s something to be said for having to work for something (at least that’s my hope).

100% agree! Not that people who bang out a (generous) sub-4:00 on their first try don’t work hard…but they have that added genetic component that I lack!
