Do one thing a day that scares you

December 6, 2011 by Kristy 15 Comments

The lululemon manifesto…

full of wise sayings

I have a lulu bag hanging up in my closet so everyday I’m hit smack across the face with words of wisdom.  Life is full of setbacks.  Success is determined by how you handle setbacks.  That which matters the most should never give way to that which matters the least.  Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself.

One particular quote that screams at me everyday:  do one thing a day that scares you.  So I am.  I’m about to begin studying for my Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification through NSCA.

my new BFF

So why am I doing this?  To become a better running coach.  To further my knowledge outside of running.  Why am I so scared?  It’s rumored to be a tough test.  I’m, of course, afraid of failing (more afraid of the cost of re-testing; this is expensive!).  I’m scared of the time commitment.  Once I begin studying I need to stick with it or I’ll just end up re-studying the beginning chapters.

I’m doing this and it scares me.  So be it.

Are you doing something right now that scares you?

Do you have a favorite lululemon quote?

Know anyone that has taken the CSCS test?  Help me!

What a great decision! I’m not doing anything that scares me beyond existing without a training plan 🙂

That’s awesome, chick! Being that I am such a fine physical specimen, if you have any questions about how I obtained this lean muscle mass or my lack of body fat, just ask a girl, okay? I’m all over that.

    Wait, quit laughing….

So exciting!! Getting certified as a running coach is something I really want to do (I just need to find a course near me). I think it’s great that you are expanding your knowledge to other areas – I’m sure it’ll definitely help you become a better, more well-rounded coach. Good luck with the studying and the test!!

I love those lululemon bags with all the quotes. I am not sure what my favorite quote is….

That certification sounds really interesting! I think it is great that you are doing things to help you be a better coach!

Love the entire lulu mantra thing. So inspiring. Can’t wait to hear more about the certification. I’m not doing it at the moment, but I’m planning (putting the wheels in motion/investigating) eventually quitting my full-time job to freelance.

Good for you! I’m playing it pretty safe right now, but I think learning to bike, completing a triathlon, and running a 50 mile race has me covered until 2012 🙂

ooh good luck studying! Learning and studying things I’m not totally comfortable with are hard, but I always feel that much better when I get a good grade or pass, you know?

I’m committing to this aqua jogging thing? Ok, thats not that scary…

Never taken that test but have taken LOTS of tests in my day! Have studied quite a bit…Good luck! My best advice is to set aside time devoted to it and stick to — kind of like you do to running! For big tests, I usually create schedules or plans to cover all the material I need and adequately for an exam (again, like running and training for a big race).

I’m sure studying for that cert will be helpful for your own training as well as coaching others. Good luck!!

Doing something that scares me…just gave my notice at the job I’ve had for the last 2.5yrs to move to CA in February for my husband’s new job.

Wow, this is awesome news! Crazy question, what do you do full-time? I know you work 3-days in the office the other 2-days at home. Do you work “fitness” related? I ask b/c I have a girlfriend that does HR in some health/fitness company. Basically she hires a lot of trainers, nutritionist, etc. Just wanted to let you know just in case you’re ever looking for a job — LOL. You have the credentials (running coach and soon to be certified in strength and conditioning). They hire all over the country including Canada and PR. Just keep that in mind.

good luck! I know you’re going kick ass!

Wow, good for you – looking forward to reading about all the cool things you learn. Best of luck.
That’s a great quote. I am always making quirky little goals for myself, besides running-related goals. Before I turn 30 next year, I am determined to learn GREEK – which is obviously scary since they have a completely different alphabet 🙂 But I am loving the process so far!
My favorite quote that my husband always says is, “You can have the life you want.”
