Thursday Thoughts

September 22, 2011 by Kristy 12 Comments

Since I’ve been rather verbose lately, I’ll keep this short and sweet.

RACE SHIRTS
Race fees are expensive, so is it too much to ask for a race T that fits?!  My pile of ill-fitting race Ts is growing.  I get the appeal of a unisex size  – it’s much easier to order and cheaper.  When I see that sizes are unisex I generally get a XS.  What usually happens is this…

Thanks LVM!

I end up with a Youth XL, which is wide and short (this one was just large in general and oddly tight on my neck).  I will never wear this shirt!

But sometimes, they get it right (thank you Philly RnR Half).  This is a proper unisex XS…

BOSTON
Is the word “Boston” everywhere or is it because I’m obsessed?  Last week my neighbor asked how my marathon went.  He was wearing a Boston T-shirt (kinda of ironic).  I went food shopping on Monday and there was a song about Boston playing.  I saw a truck the other day and all it said on the back was “Boston”.  I’m going crazy and I need to know NOW!

STEP AWAY FROM THE FOOD
I’m still eating like I’m running 50 miles a week.  I may need an intervention or that LVM shirt will fit me.  Thankfully the “fun run” period is almost over and then it’s back to training.

What are your feelings on race Ts?  For the amount of money we pay, I think they should have women’s sizes.

You’re just carb loading for the next training cycle. 🙂

Totally think they can offer female sizing. I gave this feedback to RnR philly too…16,000 runners, 9k of them women and they can’t get women’s sizing? Most runners are pretty fit…and female runners shouldn’t have to wear men’s/unisex sizing. But competitor might lose $3 of your $70 entry fee on having to buy two kinds of shirts instead of 16000 of the same style. The bucks county half marathon had women’s sizes, and a turkey trot in my home town gives out mens/womens nike dri fit tees. Those are the race shirts I am happiest with and wear the most.

I would almost rather them subtract out a few bucks and have no shirt as usually they are too big or are ugly.

Yes! I gave that piece of feedback to competitor in the post-run survey yesterday too. Charge me $10-15 less and don’t make the shirt that I won’t wear because it’s too big (and my husband won’t wear because he didn’t run the event).

I agree! Have Women’s shirts and when you say you have performance shirts don’t do tshirts and expect people not to notice!

You order an XS. Bless your heart. I’d fill that one shirt RIGHT OUT. LOLOL

I definitely agree that they should have women’s sizes. I hate all the shirts I have received that I never wear, but would never get rid of either…

Oh, totally agree re: race shirts! Luckily, the NYRR races here in NYC usually have x-small, which are perfect! Because I love me a good race T 🙂

totally agree with you!! if i run a race…i want to be able to WEAR the shirt. most of the races in ut have gender specific shirts…but the sizing is still usually crazy. its frustrating!!

Completely frustrating. Especially when I work so hard to train for a race, I want to show off my shirt! Generally I find the unisex shirts don’t have a XS. I just did a race with adorable, unisex shirts, when I asked for my small, I was told they were out! What is the point of me selecting a size when I register then?

It’s so funny how when we are tapering, we are swearing we can’t wait for a break from training, and after the race, we can’t wait to get back to it. Runners are a unique breed.

Boston will happen! I have my fingers crossed!

[…] The post-race food spread was ridiculous.  More like an ultramarathon rather than 5K.  Starbucks, muffins, doughnuts, bagels, tomato pie, juice, etc.  The race Ts are nice too.  I can actually wear it in public. […]
