thirty-six

February 10, 2013 by Kristy 21 Comments

Yesterday was my 36th birthday.  Since my birthday fell on a Saturday, I naturally turned it into a birthday weekend.  I believe birthdays should be celebrated….even if I am closer to 40 than 30.  On that note, let’s change the subject.

I knew exactly how I wanted to start my birthday – with a long run.  Abby must have read my mind and emailed me mid-week asking if I was up for a birthday run.  Of course.

It always snows on my birthday.  Always.  But luckily Nemo didn’t destroy our plans and we managed 13 snowy miles.  It was a literal winter wonderland (much like my 16-miler a few weeks ago).

Next up was spending the rest of the day with Matt and Hawk.  We strolled around Chestnut Hill (a cute neighborhood in Philly) briefly, until it became too cold.

I have been fighting a cold all week long.  By 6PM I was a snotty mess and felt awful.  I tried to rally to go out to dinner but we ending up ordering pizza and watching a movie.  I was in bed by 10:30.  Party hardy.

But, it being my birthday weekend, we are doing dinner tonight instead.  Followed by The Walking Dead.  Oh, how times have changed.

What’s your ideal way to celebrate your birthday?  For one of my birthdays, I really want to “run my age”.  Too bad I wasn’t running marathons back when I turned 26.

Happy Birthday! I love to celebrate my birthday with a run too but I am way too old to run my age in miles! Hope your birthday was a great one!

Happy Birthday, Kristy! (Yesterday was my brothers 34th bday)
On my birthday, I always take off from work for starters. I go for a run–usually at least 10 miles (my birthday is in Sept so weather is never an issue. My other birthday rule is I never cook–always go out or takeout!

Hope you are feeling better and enjoy your dinner tonight!

Also, I agree it would be fun to run your age on your birthday although I’ve never done this. Since my age is now an ultra run, maybe kilometers would be more practical!

Happy birthday!! I like to celebrate my birthday for the entire month of February! I mean it is a shorter month so who can really say anything to me about a month long celebration lol

Happy Bday! If my birthday falls during the week, I must take off
from work. Its my gift to myself. On a weekend, sleeping in, exercise
and a good meal. How times change!

Happy B-day, Kristy!! I hope you’re feeling better – at least you got a good long run in before you started feeling sick 🙂 I like low key birthdays – nice dinner, some wine and maybe getting together with friends. I don’t need any formal party or anything. Oh, and starting a birthday with a run is essential!

Happy Birthday, Kristy! I’m sorry about the cold, but it sounds like you made the most of the weekend.

Question for you: what’s your opinion of the Philly marathon? I need a fall one and we have family in Reading with whom we may just be spending Thanksgiving. Is the course too hard to contemplate BQing there? I’ve heard good things about other aspects of it, but you know me….I’ve still got my obsession….

Awww, where the heck have I been? Oh yeah, buried under a pile of work. HAPPY, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! You celebrated your birthday Rachel-style!!! A birthday run + pizza. My kind of birthday. It’s exactly how I spent mine last year and I was as happy as could be. (Let’s not forget about the carvel ice-cream too!!!).

Anyway, I hope it was everything you hoped for and that you are feeling better.

PS, you don’t look like you’re 29, let alone 36??? It must be all that running. 🙂
