Friday Night Lights

Little Things I Look Forward To Each Day

I was thinking a few days ago about all the routine things I do each day that make me smile, bring me out of a bad mood, comfort me, etc.  If you sense a list coming up, you’re correct!  Here’s my list of little things that I look forward to each day (most likely in order of appearance!).

1.  My morning run:  If you couldn’t tell from my 5:00AM wake-up calls, I’m an early bird.  Running in the morning is so peaceful (and necessary in the summer).  It’s the best way to start the day.

2.  Venti sugar-free vanilla non-fat misto:  I swing by Starbucks on the days that I go into work (I work from home 2 days a week).  Delicious!  I know my drink order is super high maintenance but this is way cheaper than a Skinny Vanilla Latte but tastes the same.

3.  Readers’ comments:  I LOVE reading your comments!  I get so excited when my Gmail lights up!  Keep ’em coming 🙂

4.  Blog reading:  I also love to read all of your blogs!

5.  Walking in the door after work and seeing Hawk:  How can you not love a dog that is so happy to see you every day?  He practically looses his mind when I walk in the door.

6.  Having dinner with Matt:  I love to sit down and eat with Matt (bonus if it’s summer and we can grill and eat on the deck).

7.  Taking Hawk for a walk:  Bonus if Matt comes along.  I enjoy going out for a walk but don’t get the chance to do it very often.

8.  Watching a TV show with Matt:  We don’t watch much TV so this is a real treat.  Usually we watch a show on Netflix (just finished up Friday Night Lights – so so so good!).

9.  Bed:  Yes, I’m serious.  I love to sleep and go to bed early – between 9:00 and 9:30.  Yup, call me grandma.  But that 5:00AM wake-up call comes pretty fast!

What are some routine things that you look forward to each day?

Taper Insanity

April 14, 2011 by Kristy 5 Comments

I’m only a few days into the taper and I’m already going a wee bit insane.  It doesn’t help that this is my second rest day in-a-row.  With a race on Sunday, my running schedule was thrown off a little this week.  I want to run the marathon, like, now!

Aside from decreasing my overall mileage, this week looks like any other training week – speed, tempo, easy, and the race.  I can’t even refocus my taper insanity onto Sunday’s race, since I’m using it as a marathon paced run!  This extra time has allowed my mind to obsess.  Obsess over the persistent post-nasal drip (gross, I know) I’ve been having.  Am I getting a cold?  Is it allergies?  Since I’m allergic to everything and the pollen count is sky high, I believe it’s allergies.  Another huge obsession is with my race day goal.  I spend lots of time crunching the numbers and visualizing.  More on that next week…that’s a post in and of itself!

Since you know what they say about an idle mind, I have been trying to obsess less and spend more time…

– Relaxing and catching up on TV (specifically Friday Night Lights)

– Taking Hawk on walks.  Hawk loves the taper because of all the extra walks!

– Tackling my to-do list.  I could do this…or watch another episode of Friday Night Lights.

– Read.  Since I have to cut back on running, I may as well read about running!  I do have about 5 running books to read.

What do you do to keep yourself (and your mind) from going insane during the taper?

Friday Favorites

6 miles easy

56:09

9:21 avg pace

I should have kept my pace in the 9:30 to 9:45 range since I have a 20-miler tomorrow.  But I couldn’t contain my excitement – it’s warm out!  Feels like I brought some San Fran weather back home with me!

It’s time for Friday Favorites!  I want to preface my favorite things by saying these are the first 3 things that came to mind.   So that explains the randomness…

Friday Night Lights
Matt and I just started watching this through Netflix.  So, so good.  We are almost finished with Season 1 and I can’t get enough.  I wasn’t sure if I’d like it since I’m not a fan of football but it’s so well written and the characters are great.

Flip Flops and Uggs
For me, these are all the shoes I need.  Oh, and my 20 pairs of running shoes.  I have some weird feet.  They don’t look weird but they don’t fit into shoes well.  Shoe shopping is not fun for me.  I can go into DSW and try on tons of shoes and walk out with nothing.  So I stick to my flips in the summer and my Uggs in the winter.  You should see me in heels…I feel like a kid playing dress-up.

Not-so-weird-looking feet

Green Beans
I told you my favorite things were random.  I love me some green beans.  Probably my favorite veggie.  No butter or olive oil necessary, just some salt.  Side note:  since I sweat like a guy when I run (oh so hot), I salt everything.  Today I had green beans and brown rice for lunch.  I would have taken a picture (a la food blogger) but I devoured it.

TGIF!  I’m seeing Black Swan tonight with my friend Michelle.  From what I hear, it’s pretty messed up which is perfect for me and Michelle.  She shares my like of sick and twisted things.
