don’t think it, just run it
Thank you for all of your advice and support on my last post. Some of my favorite mantras…
Amanda: My mantra is something like, “I may feel this exact way during my marathon and so I’ll need to know how to fight through this feeling then. I should practice it now just in case.”
Kate: “Do or do not. There is no ‘try’.” -Yoda … this manta has gotten me through many a race / training workout. You either do it, or you don’t. It’s kind of “tough love” but that’s what works for me.
Cindi: Mantra for you to try: I can f*$#ing do this! I knew I could count on Cindi for a f-bomb mantra
I think my sister summed it up best though – don’t think it, just run it. My thinking and analyzing takes over my running way too much. So, with this new attitude, I was excited for Thursday’s run. I wasn’t following my plan so I had 9 miles to do whatever I wanted (it had to be speedy stuff though). The result…adding in a 1 mile warm-up and cool-down…
8:12, 8:08, 8:12, 8:03, 8:07, 8:03, 8:13
Success! I barely looked at my Garmin, either. Just kinda went by feel.
hawk’s birthday
Our little bundle of fur turned 2 yesterday! Naturally, like people that need to have kids, we sang happy birthday and took pictures.
He makes us laugh every day, even when he chews his dog bed.
If you have a dog, do you “celebrate” its birthday? I doubt I’m the only one!
Have a great weekend!

Dude, we made a “cake” for Gage out of a Hooters go box and Cheetos as the candles. And we totally were those people who put their dog in a santa suit on their Xmas cards.
True story.

NICE RUN! Way to not get sucked into that Vortex of doubt. We all know intellectually that one bad run isn’t going to derail your whole training program (hell, five bad ones won’t! TEN bad ones shouldn’t!) But still, we also have all been there when you just can’t stop thinking how you’re never going to reach your goal or even PR or blah blah blah… Anyhow, see! You had an awesome and speedy run!
On another note, Hawk is SO CUTE! I WANT A DOG SO BAD! Happy bday to him! 🙂 And happy Friday to you!
Amanda says
We (I) made a “birthday hat” for Molly for her birthday one year. She ran from the living room into her crate in the bedroom. So that was the first and last time we tried a birthday hat 🙂
Nice run and Happy Birthday to Hawk!

Nice run! When you stop stressing about numbers I find running well happens much more naturally. In the rest interval of each 800 yesterday I also though about how thankful I am to be able to run. It helped me power through the next interval. Result? Best 800s ever. Maybe not total causation but…whatever.
Happy birthday to Hawk! If I had a pet I’d totally celebrate his/her bday 🙂
Meggie says
nice job! running has ebbs and flows, just like everything else.
your dog is really cute, btw! I’m sure you know that though 🙂

Peanut is so unloved haha. We don’t even know when her birthday actually is, so we don’t do anything. Also, she lives a pretty charmed life already so I can’t think of anything I could do to make her day special…especially since she’s on a diet. 🙂

You are just so amazing with your runs. I want to be just like you in a few years. Okay, in a few months, weeks, days???? I come here to get my daily dose of motivation. ;o)
Anyway, we don’t have a dog, but I am certain that if we did, we would totally be celebrating his/her birthday! that picture is just too cute. LOVE IT. Happy Birthday, Hawk. May your day be filled with lots of rubs, licks, and puppy treats.

Dogs are very important! We were big dog birthday celebrators when I was growing up. Not allowed to have one now (stupid lease), but we’ll definitely reignite this tradition when we can get our own!
Jen says
happy birthday hawk! yes, we celebrate puppy birthdays! 🙂

awww happy birthday to hawk!! He is adorable. If I had a dog I would most definitely celebrate his birthday and give him lots of presents. hehe.
I like the “don’t think, just run” mantra. Simple and to the point, reminds us to get out of our heads when we need it!

I love mantras! It’s easy to get in your own head, but you have to find ways to push the negative thoughts out of your mind!
We always celebrate Jesse’s birthday – we get him a doggy cake, birthday toys, and have a hat and bandana we put on him. He’s not wild about the hat 🙂

Your pup is ADORABLE! I love the birthday picture – puts a big smile on my face on a grey day! 😉
