During the summer I try and do my long runs on Fridays. Sometimes this means getting up before 5AM, getting ready, driving to my long run spot, and banging out a 20-miler so that I’m home and ready to work by 9AM (I work from home on Fridays). It’s so worth it to have your long run out of the way before the weekend begins.
Today I kicked off my Friday summer runs with the same hilly route that I used last summer for marathon training. After NJ’s flat course I really need to step up my hill workouts so I’m ready for anything come September.
I was especially happy this morning and thankful that my quad feels 100% back to normal after the marathon! A small part of me was afraid it was an injury (instead of dehydration) and that running on it for 6 more miles during the race made things worse.
And how can you not be happy when you get to spend your Friday mornings looking at this? Since today’s run was a “fun run” I snapped some pictures. I only had my BlackBerry so the quality isn’t the best.
I was going to include a self portrait but didn’t want to scare away readers 🙂
Any races this weekend? Or crazy training runs?

Where you run looks so pretty!
I’m doing a fun run of 8.5 miles on the road and then 7.5 miles on the trails tomorrow, but the best part is that it will probably be pouring rain 🙂

Your fun run is going to turn into a mud run! Have fun!

I’ve never done a long run on a Friday – even during the summer when I wouldn’t be teaching. Hmm.. I have my 8 miler for SF Half training plan for tomorrow. I’ll be running in the beautiful Sawyer Camp (a must for a longer visit to the Bay!)

13 miles on Friday the 13th= perfect! Good job on that distance and keeping your pace up! I am taking it a bit easier this weekend and then next Sunday I am racing in a mud run! Can’t wait 🙂

Valley Forge! One of my fav places to run! Some of its rolling hills are tough, but it’s just so picturesque, that I actually ENJOY them. And then there are the deer that are completely unafraid of people. Glad the quad is all good.

Nice run! I love seeing pictures of people’s running routes! I can’t believe you do your long runs on a weekday morning. I usually roll outta bed on Saturday and after making breakfast, eating, and lazing around for a bit, I get going haha.

Wow, that’s dedication but a great idea to get the long run done before the weekend. When I trained for my 2 marathons (many moons ago) I did the long ones on Sundays and they dominated the whole day and then I was tired at work on Monday.
