Friday Favorites – Holiday Edition

December 16, 2011 by Kristy 15 Comments

Let’s get right to it….

Christmas cards from friends and family
I love coming home to a mailbox full of Christmas pictures!  Matt and I send out a picture of Hawk.  Nothing screams we need to have children quite like this…

Hot chocolate with candy canes
Williams-Sonoma make these candy canes dipped in chocolate than you put into your hot chocolate.  Delicious!

Cookies
I eat cookies year round but somehow they taste better at Christmas.  My absolute favorite are white chocolate macadamia followed very closely by chocolate chip.

O Holy Night
Hands down my favorite Christmas song.  I have no idea why…maybe because it’s so dramatic?  Least favorite?  All I Want For Christmas Is You (or anything by Mariah Carey) and Santa Baby.  Ugh.

Christmas ornaments
Matt and I exchange ornaments every year.  We started this tradition our first year of dating so we have quite the collection by now.  I love searching for something new and different each year.  Matt’s ornament for me last year pretty much rocked.

RTLR is almost 1!!!!

Time off work
I have the week “off” between Christmas and New Years.  My company “shuts down” but makes us hold onto 4 vacation days so we can use them during the “shut down”.  So it’s pretty much forced vacation.  I’d prefer to work and use those 4 days over the summer but time off is time off and I won’t be working which makes me happy.

What are some of your holiday favorites?  Fave Christmas song?  Least favorite?  Fave cookie?  Share ’em!

I love that ornament! We have a rock climbing Santa and a mountain biking Santa on our tree, but no runners. I’m a pretty simple girl when it comes to cookies – a good chocolate chip one always hits the spot.

First of all, that ornament is fantastic!! We also share very similar tastes in Christmas music. My favorite Christmas cookie is a chocolate cookie with chocolate chunks and dried cherries. I found it in Everyday Food (Martha Stewart) magazine several years ago and it is one of the cookies I make very year.

O Holy Night is one of my faves. I kind of separate Christmas songs in my head into church Christmas songs and commercial Christmas songs. There are a lot of “commercial” Christmas songs that I like.

fave cookie = m and m cookie (with chocolate chips)

Fun post, Kristy! I may copy this idea. :^)

Favorite Xmas song: God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen. I love old British carols that evoke chilly cathedrals and Charles Dickens. And I’m so with you–I hate any Xmas carols as interpreted by Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber etc. and actually some of those overdone Mannheim Steamrolller ones are getting really old too.

    Favorite Xmas cookie? These: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/sparkling-cranberry-gems-recipe

That ornament from your husband is *awesome*!

What a great post (as usual). And I love that ornament, also. We have similar holiday favorites. I love cookies, all year long too, but especially during Christmas. My favorite cookie is the cookie cake. Sugar cookies with frosting on top. YUM! I can eat a lot of those. What else do i love? Well, I’m a huge gift giver and I like to put a lot of thought into gifts for important people in my life. I love watching them open it! ;o)

Oh, you are so lucky that you off from work, but yeah, it blows that you have to use force vacation time. That’s wac.

I can tell you my least favorite Christmas song… That song about the red shoes.

That ornament is pretty darn cool. Good hubs right there. A keeper.

I like silent night the best and chocolate chip cookies.

I so should have gotten your mailing address to send you a card. It’s Jake holding his stuffed Grinch in some sort of death grip and an ornery look on his face so we captioned it “Merry Christmas or the Grinch gets it.”

And we get the day after Xmas off and that’s it. Trust me, the managing partner would find a way to make us work if he could – but the building we are in literally shuts DOWN so we, meaning HE, would have to pay for a/c or heat and all that jazz and well, that ain’t happening. He’s a delight.

My fav is Oh Holy Night also! I love the ornament! How cute! Love the Christmas card, too! I have a lot of exclamations in this comment! Have a great weekend, Kristy!!!!!! 😉
Oh and for cookies– I LOVE peppermint bark that they sell at Williams & Sonoma. It is disgustingly overpriced, but oh so yummy. I also love pretty much any other cookie that does not have raisins in it– very important distinction!

Your least favorite song is my favorite! One time my old gym had a special class where they taught you a sexy dance to that song…oh, I looked sexy, believe me. I also posted today about how much I love Christmas cards! I’m always complaining we don’t have enough ornaments…..why have I never thought of formally exchanging them? Eric will be thrilled to hear of this development.
