A Quick Update On Boston…

September 27, 2011 by Kristy 21 Comments

The update is that I still don’t know and may not know if I’m officially in for some time (officially is the key word here).  Most runners found out yesterday if they were accepted or not.  I have yet to receive an email.  All I know is the cut-off time for my age and gender is 3:43:46 which is exactly my finish time at the Lehigh Valley Marathon.

See the time for the 35-39 age group?  Through and including 3:43:46?  So technically, I’m in (by the skin of my teeth)!  How incredibly lucky is that?

There appears to be an issue verifying my finish time.  I have spoken and emailed the B.A.A. twice today.  They cannot use the posted times on the LVM website for verification (I asked).  The LVM does not give out finishers’ certificates (which the B.A.A. would accept for verification).  I also emailed the race director of the LVM to see if he/she can help in anyway.

The second time I spoke with the B.A.A. she said it may take up to 4 weeks to verify my time.  I burst into tears (thankfully, I’m working from home).  It has been a stressful 2 days and that was the last thing I wanted to hear.

I know my finish time meets the requirements but I cannot celebrate and be happy about it until I receive an acceptance email from the B.A.A.

I feel like I am doing everything in my power to help out and move things along.  I guess I just have to wait some more 🙁

Ahhh lady i have been thinking about you!!! I am sorry for the added frustration!! But the way I see it you are coming to boston. that is the time and all they want is a certificate or whatever so they will get it and you will be in. i know it is very difficult to look at it this way but it is the facts. you have the right time you are in period, come to boston!

Seriously, what are the chances that you finished to the second at the cut off?!?!?! You were meant to run Boston!

Pretty lucky, huh? One second slower and I would be out.

fingers crossed kristy! i’m sorry they’re being so annoying about the whole thing – typical boston it seems! you will get in – even if it takes some time to verify, that is your time and officially it means you will run that race!

So stressful!! I’m sorry you’re still waiting. I can’t believe that cut-off time, though!! You really did make it by the skin of your teeth. Wow. (Awesome job with that!)

Anyway, hang in there. It does sound like you’re going to make it in, unless she made you think that people who are down to the second still have a chance of not qualifying this year…? Either way, I know you won’t feel at ease until it’s official, but hopefully they’ll work with you to speed things along. Hope you hear soon!!

In the meantime, is it too early to say congratulations? 🙂

You are so lucky to have made it by the exact second. 🙂 Congrats!

Your situation is weird tho…one friend of mine who qualified there too was notified already??

The same exact time you got is the cutoff….creepy! It’s like fate. I don’t get it though, is that the new cutoff based on the people they’ve already let in?That is so frustrating! I’m so sorry to hear it. Fingers will be crossed for you!

All the BQ-20, BQ-10, and BQ-5 runners were accepted. They place the rest of us in order of qualifying times (starting with BQ-4ers) until all available slots were filled. The cut-off for males and females (all age groups) was BQ-1:14 (exactly my time).

I stumbled across your blog two days ago, when hunting down my Boston status. Your BQ is the exact cut off time?!?!?!….Bet you BAA knows about your blog!!!!!!!

PS. I made it by 1 minute and 17 seconds! See you there.

That’s it. I just cracked my knuckles. Whose ass do I need to kick? 4 weeks?!? I’m sorry but no. I have to check my frequent flier miles for a trip to Boston……I’m off to stretch and warm up for a rumble.

You must be going crazy! I mean, you are in but until the official word comes, I know you must feel. You should get in touch with Bart Yasso, too…maybe he knows why the hold up.
Anyway you ARE going to Boston and I am so excited for you!
You may want to make your hotel reservations soon, as they fill quickly. I used Marathon Tours and they were great to work with. We stayed at the Westin Copley which was a block from the finish line–so great not to have to deal with transportation after the race and just walk back to the hotel.
    Hope this is resolved soon!

Beth – thanks so much for the hotel info. I’m doing that tonight!

After I posted, Gerry Yasso sent an email to the BAA confirming my time. I’m hoping that helps and I get official word tomorrow!

How crazy that the cut off is down to the exact second!!
Is Gerry Yasso related to Bart?
And I’m going to be the first to say it — you look much younger than your age group!

Yes, he is!!! The whole Yasso clan is now officially awesome!

That’s funny (and thank you!). For the past year, I’ve been saying my BQ time is 3:45 and I would get a puzzled look and people would correct me and say 3:40. Then I would explain that I’ll be 35 on race day…

oh man, that is SO frustrating. But hopefully it’ll be worth the wait! Just keep thinking positively and maybe focus on other stuff until you find out (easy for me to say).

For the record, I was also confused at first about your BQ time of 3:45 vs 3:40 – you do look very young! 🙂
