6 miles speed
*6 x 800m at 10K pace. It was freezing this morning! OK, that’s a slight exaggeration but it felt amazing out. I cannot wait for Fall running weather.
Don’t we always want what we don’t have? Aren’t we supposed to be grateful for what we have and make the most of it? Absolutely, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dream or make a list. Here are some of my current “wants”.
Want: bangs
What I Have: curly hair
Yeah, there’s no mixing the two. Kinda like oil and water. I would also like to run my fingers through my hair on occasion but they would get stuck. Actually, I love my curly hair (I never straighten it) because it’s different and, most of the time, pretty low maintenance.
Want: long, lean legs
What I Have: short, muscular legs
So my legs will never look like Kara Goucher’s. But they power me through marathons and totally came through on last week’s 22-miler. This might be the worst picture ever, by the way.
Want: a career involving running (talking, writing, blogging, and most of all, coaching)
What I Have: a job
I’m fortunate enough to even have a job but that doesn’t mean I can’t complain! I’ll get to the running career someday…baby steps. At least I’m lucky enough to spend a good deal of time outside my job coaching. That’s where my passion lies and that’s what I will do someday…for a job and career.
Want: a pair of TOMS wedges
What I Have: not a pair of TOMS wedges
This isn’t the best “I want vs. I have” but I’ve been eyeing these shoes up for awhile. And then Holly had a pair on at the HLS and raved about how comfortable they are.

Want: to run the Boston Marathon in 2012
What I Have: a slim-to-none and crappy chance of even registering
So this is my biggest want, obviously. If When I qualify on 9/11/11, it won’t be by more than 5 minutes (i.e., 3:40 or sub-3:40), which is the rumored time you might need in order to get priority registration. I could worry about that now or I could put that energy into qualifying and leave the stuff that is out of my hands to fate.
Now it’s your turn. Give me a current “want” vs. “have”…or two!

This is a fun idea for a post!
I want a maid
What I have is my dog to help eat crumbs
I want my old boobs back.
At least the current variety don’t bounce

I abso-freaking-lutely love this post. You and I have the same wants and haves — except #1, I actually have pin-straight hair with bangs and always go in to a salon asking them to give me a perm. Every stylist refuses to do it for me.
Here’s a good one:
What I want: A Big Mac with Super-Sized French Fries and a Hi-C orange.
What I have: A metabolism that sucks and will cause me to gain 5+ lbs eating that damn Big Mac with Super-sized French Fries and a Hi-C Orange.
another one…
What I want: To win the lottery and be a billionaire.
What I Have: A savings account that has maybe $50 in it.

I love my curly hair but I totally understand occasionally being jealous of people who can run their fingers through it! I don’t think that’s a bad pic at all, I think you look cute. I get a bit jealous at my running group because it seems like everyone has these long, gorgeous, super lean legs, and then there’s stumpy me with my tree trunks. But, as you said, they have powered me through a lot of running, and I appreciate that! What I want: to be independently wealthy, or get paid for running. What I have: a job. I am very grateful for it though, many people don’t even have that! Even if you don’t get in, you still get the glory and bragging rights of qualifying!

Want: the ability to move my behind faster than I do.
Have: a body that is slowly bouncing back to its pre-hiatus status.
Want: legs that don’t resemble a sumo wrestler
Have: thick legs, particularly calves, courtesy of my father’s side of the family – however, said legs are currently also on my boy and holy crap on a stick, they are cute when sticking out of khaki shorts that due to length become man-pris.

I had no idea Toms made wedges! I now want those. I have the flats and do love them. I’d love a boyfriend (–> husband) and hoping that’ll happen someday. I want to also BQ at NYC but that’ll have to be sub-3:35. I want a personal chiropractor/physical therapist, but that’s not happening (or realistic at all).
I think its so cool you’re into coaching – that’s awesome!

This might be a ‘bad influence’ comment…but get the Tom’s wedges. I have a black pair and I wear them ALL THE TIME! So comfy and practical, yet super cute!
And I’m with you on the long, lean legs. I have short and muscular ones too – that I am still thankful for!

hmm, more positive feedback on the wedges. i may have to really consider getting them!

I love your curly hair. I have half curly/half frizzy hair… but it’ll only go ‘curly’ in humidity. I’m 32 and still haven’t figured out my mane.
And I, too, have muscular legs and will never have long, lean svelte legs. But I’m okay with that (it took me a few years).
You’ll kick ass in your marathon. I can feel it!

Don’t worry, I thought the TOMS wedges were comfortable until I wore them to school the first time and got a blister on the back of my heel. Now I think I have them broken in because I’ve been wearing them more. I have straight-ish hair and always curl it 🙂 I love your curls!
