7/6/11
7 miles easy / 1:07 / 9:34 avg pace
Week 5 went surprisingly well, especially after a weekend of bachelorette festivities. The lack of sleep did me in and I practically dragged myself out of bed for each run. But, as always, once I got moving I was fine.
MON: 6 miles speed
TUE: 6 miles tempo
WED: 8 miles easy
THU: rest
FRI: 18 miles (so happy about this run!)
SAT: 4 easy miles at the shore
SUN: rest
42 miles for the week (it’s a drop-back week). I’m hoping to hit the big 5-0 this week.
So here’s a really random, so-not-related-to-this-post question: when you wear running tights (or yoga pants), do you wear underwear? I’ve gotten asked this question a few times (I don’t) and I have pretty strong feelings on this one. First off, why would you? I can’t think of anything more uncomfortable. And unsightly. I’ve been behind women in races and all I can see is panty lines. If you do don the underwear, I would love to hear why!
Kara says
I wear underwear (but a thong to avoid VPL) so I can wear the running tights more than once without it being gross. So usually the first two times, I wear underwear and when I know I’m going to wash them, I go without. It’s all about laundry based laziness 🙂
Shannon @ Mon Amour says
I wear a thong too. Sometimes I will put a liner in them so nothing is exposed and they don’t get gross
Pink Runner says
Hahahaha I have and just thought I needed to! I should try without for running! I was never too worried about VPL for running around my neighborhood in the winter. If I wear them for a class or spinning, I go with the thong!

i wear a thong too – only wear normal undies to bed. i would imagine going commando would feel really weird, but then again have never tried it. maybe will give it a try later this week!

Yay for that 18 miler! That is awesome! Excited to hear about your 50 mile week! 🙂

Awesome on your milage. When is the race again – you will rock it btw! I never thought of that. I always wear undies for those things but of course never in the running shorts were they are built in. What do you do? I remember the first time I was introduced to running shorts, it was like a glorious open window had opened and i stepped through ahaha ok mellow dramatic but you can see my excitement after years of running without them.
Ruth says
Always always always a thong with yoga pants. Because I run for 1.5 to 2 hours and after that amount of time, your external parts can get chafed and blistered, believe it or not. You’ill understand that better after you’ve experienced VDWS: vaginal delivery with stitches!

Thanks Ruth (I think)! Another perk of children, huh? 🙂

Your training is just sailing smoothly. I love Fall races, but I hate training in the dead heat! I am also looking forward to your 50-mile week. How exciting.
Now, as for running sans panties… I don’t wear running tights because I have a serious case of thunder thighs. No, really, I do. I’ve learn to love them and have accepted them, but because I’m only 4’11 and 3/4, they just look even bigger when I wear running tights. If I were to wear them, I would probably wear them without the undies. Mainly because you’d see the outline — and in my case (because of the thunder thighs), it would look like a muffin top, but on the butt area, if that makes any sense at all.

You make me laugh! I had no idea you were that little!

I’m anti-undies and surprised to see I’m in the minority. I’m a thong-only girl in all other areas of life, but when running it’s either built-in or nada. Then again, I don’t like wearing underwear with pajama pants either, so maybe I’m just Miss Commando. Never thought of myself that way before. Also never thought I’d be commenting about undergarment preference, so there ya go. Thanks for the always stimlating discussion topics Kristy!

Hmmm, I always do wear underwear, just so I don’t always have to was my tights. But, maybe I’ll try not. We’ll see.
I can’t believe how “high” of mileage you can run! The most I’ve every done is 43! Maybe I’ll get there one day!
