Two days away, no running, some easy hiking, some sleep, time with Matt, dinner and drinks with family, and lots of Olympics watching is exactly what I needed to snap my mind and legs out of their funk.
Matt and I headed up north this weekend to the quaint town of Milford, PA for his birthday. Never heard of it? Either did we. It’s just south of where PA, NJ, and NY meet and right near the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area so there are lots of trails to hike. And the town of Milford is very pet friendly so Hawk was able to join us.
Before we headed north on Friday, I got my long run out of the way and it wasn’t as miserable as expected given how heavy my legs felt last week. 18 miles at 10:00 average pace. Done and done.
Our weekend in pictures…
Very late on Saturday night (after many drinks) I was faced with 2 options: (1) sleep in and watch the women’s marathon once I got home (and avoid all social media on the 2+ hour trip home) or (2) get up at 6AM and watch it live. Option #2 won and it was well worth the lack of sleep.
The men’s 10,000 meters wasn’t bad to watch either!
Did you watch the marathon live or sleep in? Or don’t care? Is that possible?!

Sounds like a great weekend! I woke up early to watch the marathon, but I definitely needed a nap later on Sunday. Can’t wait for the men’s race this weekend.

I have never heard of Milford but it looks like a great place!
I watched the marathon Sunday, but I am always up by 6am so it wasn’t a special effort or anything. I just can’t sleep in anymore!
Glad you are rested and refreshed!

that does sound like a great weekend. David and I need to completely unplug for a weekend.
I DVR’ed the race so i could run and come home to watch it!

those views are incredible! so happy that you had such a good weekend celebrating the birthday. the women’s marathon is so inspiring! can’t believe you got up so early to watch it though! 😉

I am ashamed to admit I didn’t watch the marathon at all. I definitely wasn’t going to get up for it and then saw the results when I woke up. Sadly missing the first half of the Olympics bc I was too busy in SF has made me a little out of touch with the whole games.

Love all the pictures and so glad you were able to relax. It really is the best medicine, after all.
I cried when Goucher helped Flanagan up. Am I a sap or what?!?

Sometimes once that taper hits it’s so hard to stay motivated! I hear ya on the burnt out feeling, glad you were able to get rejuvenated!
I missed the women’s marathon :(. Devastated, but I was drinking my face off until 1am at a wedding, then I had 5K training, then had to drive up to see my nephew! Such a pickle.

I didn’t get up to watch the marathon, but I turned it on at like mile 17. I got the gist of it 🙂
Glad a weekend away helped you out of your funk!

haha how is it possible not to care??? I was so up… and I did my recovery run before the race because I am that crazy. It was totally worth it though, and I’ll do it again this SUnday for the mens!

Slept in! I needed it!

Sounds like a great weekend – little get-aways like that are the best! Unfortunately I missed the marathon – I couldn’t believe it!!! Long story, but our travel didn’t go the way we expected 🙂 I just avoided social media and caught up once we landed.

I woke up early and watched the race online. I fully admit I am a geek, cause I was on holiday in nyc and had already ordered up room service to arrive right before the start, so I could watch the whole thing, uninterrupted:)
It didn’t really pop until the last 30 mins…but watching them deal with the cobble stones, water stop issues and tight turns was amazing. I wanted Flanagan to metal so bad, but she was almost running a PR already and was clearly having issues in the last 10 mins or so (she tweeted later she had stomach cramps).
When it was over, I went straight to the hotel gym to do my scheduled run. Figured it was the best way to show my homage:)

I was in vegas during the women’s marathon and actually left the party to go up to my room to watch the women’s marathon 🙂
Sounds like you had a great weekend!
